Since its start in 2020, the Canada Greener Homes Grant (CGHG) has had a successful and meaningful run—helping many Canadians make environmentally friendly changes to their homes. Unfortunately the program came to an abrupt end on February 12th, 2024. Anyone who hasn’t registered before that date will not be eligible for the grant.
The grant ended even earlier for Ontario and Nova Scotia. Ontario required the initial energy audit to be completed before February 5th while Nova Scotia required the initial audit to be booked before February 5th.
If you did not make the deadline with your registration or energy audit, you sadly will not be able to receive the grant.
What Does This Mean For Polaron Solar Customers?
Some of our current customers may be affected, especially newer clients who signed up under the CGHG program. As long as you have registered or completed your energy audit before the above mentioned deadlines, you are still eligible for the grant.
We understand government rebates help make transitioning to solar energy easier and more affordable. We’re always looking for new ways to create accessible options when it comes to our programs. If you signed on with us under The Canada Greener Homes Grant program and are now ineligible, we are working on alternatives.
As for current available rebate options, provincial incentives are still being offered in Prince Edward Island (up to $10,000) and Nova Scotia (up to $3000).
For other provinces, you can also look into the federal $40,000 loan, which is also still available. The loan offers a 0% 10-year term for homeowners who want to make energy-efficient upgrades to their homes, including solar PV installations.
An energy audit will still have to be done to get approval for the federal loan. Please keep in mind, the greener homes program will no longer cover the cost of the mandatory energy audit. If you want to apply for the loan, you’ll have to pay for the audit yourself. Despite this, we believe the federal loan is still a viable option for homeowners interested in solar.
