Renewable energy in Canada continues its upward trend as CanREA announced a 46% Increase in installed wind, solar and energy storage capacity in the last 5 years. Solar & energy storage saw exceptionally great numbers, growing by 92% and 192% respectively.
Our total installed wind, solar and battery storage capacity now stands at 24GW, leading as Canada’s fastest growing energy source.
The future is looking even brighter as projections show an expected 10 additional GW of installed capacity by 2030, bringing the total in Canada to 34 GW. For comparison, Canada currently has around 14.5 GW of nuclear energy capacity.
Polaron’s Commitment to Growing Solar and Energy Storage in Canada
We want to continue being a part of the change. Polaron is committed to developing our commercial and residential energy programs to improve accessibility across the country. We look forward to helping Canada’s solar and battery storage installation numbers surge in the next 5 years.
If we want to reach our goal of over 96 GW capacity by 2050, we need to keep pushing and advocating for renewable energy in Canada. The goal was set as part of Canada’s commitment to fight climate change by reducing emissions.
We are seeing growing investments made federally and provincially to promote larger solar and battery storage projects. Ontario recently announced a $860,000 rebate for businesses to install behind-the-meter load displacement systems. BC also introduced rebates up to $150,000 for commercial solar and battery solutions A 30% refundable tax credit was also launched last year for commercial clean technology investments.
New rebates have also come through on the residential side for both BC and Ontario, promoting the adoption of solar and battery storage.
