A major community hub in Guysborough, Nova Scotia has taken a bold step toward sustainability. The Municipality of Guysborough’s flagship building, an essential space for recreation, wellness, and public events, is now home to a 160kW commercial solar system, making it one of the largest renewable energy installations in the region.
Backed by the municipality’s commitment to long-term efficiency and environmental leadership, this project highlights a growing realization that rising energy costs should never stand in the way of delivering essential services to the community.
More than just a building, the facility hosts everything from fitness activities to community meetings. But large-scale operations come with significant energy demands. To reduce electricity costs and environmental impact, the Municipality partnered with Polaron, Canada’s largest residential and commercial solar provider, to bring this vision to life.
Our engineering team designed a system to fully optimize the available rooftop space, ensuring year-round energy production. The installation includes 320 Tier-1 Longi solar panels, selected for their durability, high efficiency, and proven performance in Nova Scotia’s varied climate.
From Plan to Power in Just 8 Months
Although large in scale, the project was executed with remarkable speed. From kickoff in early October in 2024 to full activation by June 2025, our in-house team managed:
- Custom design and engineering
- All permitting and approvals
- Coordination with utility providers
- Professional installation and commissioning
Throughout the process, the facility remained fully operational with minimal disruption.
